Twitter’s New Update is Latest Blow in Social Media Showdown
If we compared social media to a boxing event, we would have Facebook &Instagram in one corner and Twitter & Vine in the opposing. It seems lately that these partnerships are in a constant battle to keep up with one another in cutting edge updates for their social media outlets.
The latest change rolled out is Twitter’s update to make timelines – on both the website and mobile app-more visual with image previews.
“These rich Tweets can bring your followers closer to what’s happening, and make them feel like they are right there with you,” Twitter commented in regards to the update.
The breakdown? You’ll be able to tap on photos and videos in your timeline to expand the files right then and there (“in-line”) rather than clicking a link that directs you away from your timeline. One caveat on videos – only Vine videos will be permitted to expand on the timeline while other source videos still require further link clicking.
In additional to image previews, changes to the mobile app include an update that allows you to reply, retweet, or favorite a tweet without having to tap on an individual tweet first.
How is the Twitterverse responding? As with all social media changes, it will take time for Tweeters to adjust to the new look and feel of Twitter. Some users are upset about the ‘in-your-face’ nature of these modifications but luckily, for those with the mobile app on their iPhone, there is an option to turn off the new in-line media feed.
